About Math Olympiad:

Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools is for students in 4th to 8th grade only, which provides opportunities for children to engage in creative problem solving activities which develop a child's ability to reason, to be logical, to be resourceful, and occasionally to be ingenious.

The Olympiad goals for children are for them to:

1. Develop enthusiasm for problem solving and mathematics

2. Deepen understanding of mathematical concepts and strengthen ability to use these concepts

3. Consider concepts that they might not otherwise encounter

4. Enrich experiences in intellectually stimulating and significant mental activities

5. Build a stronger foundation for assessments and for future mathematics studies

About Workshop:

In this workshop we teach the kids the various strategies that can be used to solve a math problem.

Learning these strategies helps the students to appear for the math olympiad contests confidently.

Being able to solve a difficult problem is one of the most satisfying experiences one may have.

On the other hand, struggling with a difficult problem should indicate to your child that he or she has found something worthwhile and new to learn. This should be viewed as a challenge and an opportunity to grow.

Learning how to solve a problem and to understand its underlying mathematical concepts are the most important goals of mathematics education.

SCHEDULE:

Check in 9:00 a.m.

Workshop begins at 9:15 A.M.

Lunch break is from 12:15 P.M. to 12:45 P.M.

Workshop resumes at 12:45 P.M. and goes until 4:30 P.M. with a 15 minute break in between around 2:30 P.M.

Contest Details:

The contests will be held from November until March once a month. The contest are only 30 minutes and the students will solve 5 problems in each of these contests. They work individually using paper and pen.Below are the dates for the contests

ENTRY FEE:

Entry fee is $40. Day of registration may be allowed if spots are available for $45.Workshop participants get to participate in the contests at no cost.

REGISTRATION:

Registration closes when maximum numbers of participants are registered. Register early to guarantee your spot!!!

FOOD:

Breakfast provided by the hotel until 10:30 A.M. by the hotel for a cost of $3 per person.

Adult and Child CPR/AED, Infant CPR & First Aid

October 30th 2010 - 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.

American Red Cross, One Westport Court, Bloomington, IL 61704

Please realize the importance of the having the knowledge of CPR and First Aid during emergency situations.

To help the families and persons we are organizing this course through the American Red Cross. The Instructors will be from American Red Cross.

The Course Cost is $45 per person which is paid entirely to American Red Cross. $40 will be paid onsite. The registration cost $5 will reserve your space. Limited to 30 Participants.

Course Details:

This course combines CPR and first aid training to teach participants to

• Recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults;
• Perform first aid for cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, bleeding, sprains and strains; treat sudden illnesses, including poisonings and heat and cold emergencies;
• Minimize the effects of shock; and recognize emergencies and take action.

This course also includes training in using an automated external defibrillator (AED) on a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.

Useful textbook helps students retain skills and serves as a reference tool in an emergency.

Course Timings:

This is an All day course from 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Please bring your lunch or there are restaurants nearby at walkable distance.

SCHEDULE:

Check in 8:00-8:30 a.m.

First round starts at 9:00 a.m.

Other rounds start ASAP

Lunch break between rounds 2-3

ROUNDS & TIME CONTROL:

5-SS, G/30, USCF Rated for lower ratings or sections

4-SS, G/45 USCF Rated for higher ratings or sections

PRIZES:

Individual trophies to top five in each section

Other Trophies determined based on enrollment
