Coaching for Math Olympiad Contests
The Math Olympiad coaching starts from September 14th 2011 and goes until March 2012. The class will meet every week for about an hour to first learn the strategies to apply Math problems and then beginning November they will participate in the contests conducted by MOEMS nationwide.

Kids in 4th grade to 8th grade are eligible to participate.

This coaching will be basic for kids and will help them more when they take ACT or SAT exams in their high school.

This is our Second year offering this training and contests within Bloomington Normal

The cost is $85.00 for the training and to take the contest.

Quiz Competition Rules: Quiz Competition for grades K-12 consists of 2 rounds.
The questions are based on grade level.
First round - Kids will take a written test on 20 questions.
Top 5 scorers will go to second round to answer 5 questions each orally.
A third round will be decided if needed for a tie-break.
The Top 3 kids in each grade gets Trophies and participation awards given to all participants.

Speech Competition Rules: For Grades K-3 the topic of speech will be provided after registration.
For Grades 4-12 the topic will be provided 1 hour before they are to give the speech.
All participants gets awards for participating.
To encourage the kids - no 1st 2nd prizes are given - instead the evaluators will provide a written feedback to the kids 4-12 - on what they did good and what they need to improve on.
This helps the kids in developing their speech skills.

Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools is for students in 4th to 8th grade only, which provides opportunities for children to engage in creative problem solving activities which develop a child's ability to reason, to be logical, to be resourceful, and occasionally to be ingenious. The Olympiad goals for children are for them to:
  1. develop enthusiasm for problem solving and mathematics,
  2. deepen understanding of mathematical concepts and strengthen ability to use these concepts,
  3. consider concepts that they might not otherwise encounter,
  4. enrich experiences in intellectually stimulating and significant mental activities, and
  5. build a stronger foundation for assessments and for future mathematics studies
Contest Details: The dates below are the dates when the contests will be held. The contests are only 30 minutes and the students will solve 5 problems in each of these contests. They work individually using paper and pen. The Students should be able to attend all the 5 contests for being scored. The scoring will be done and reported at the end of each contests to MOEMS and after all the 5 contests are completed - MOEMS will grade the scores obtained by the Kids and the awards will be determined by MOEMS based on the scores. Please realize the importance of the having the knowledge of CPR and First Aid during emergency situations.


To help the families and persons we are organizing this course through the American Red Cross. The Instructors will be from American Red Cross.

The Course Cost is $45 per person which is paid entirely to American Red Cross. $40 will be paid onsite. The registration cost $5 will reserve your space. Limited to 30 Participants.


Course Details:


This course combines CPR and first aid training to teach participants to


  • Recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults;
  • Perform first aid for cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, bleeding, sprains and strains; treat sudden illnesses, including poisonings and heat and cold emergencies;
  • Minimize the effects of shock; and recognize emergencies and take action.

This course also includes training in using an automated external defibrillator (AED) on a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.


Useful textbook helps students retain skills and serves as a reference tool in an emergency.


Course Timings:


This is an All day course from 8:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. Please bring your lunch or there are restaurants nearby at walkable distance.

Registration Limit: Registration is limited to the first 72 entries 36 per section.
Prizes: 5 Trophies per section, biggest upset, in each section. Commemorative medals for all non-trophy players. All players will take home something! Top two players each section will win a gift certificate for a one-hour private chess lesson from CCC Instructors – Colley Kitson, Joe Alford, Pete Karagainis and Surya Kopula.
Entry Fee: $20. Please make entries by registering online at www.bnasc.org.
Entry deadline is 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 14th, 2010 or until limit of 72 entries / 36 per section is met. CCC Students and Bloomington Normal scholastic player will have first priority.
